AN INDIAN SWORD (TALWAR), LATE 18TH/19TH CENTURY

with associated curved broad kilig style blade formed with a reinforced back-edge and double-edged towards the tip, iron hilt of characteristic form, comprising shaped langets, a pair of quillons with lobated terminals, recurved knuckle-guard with terminal en suite, large disc pommel, near conical button (repaired), and integral grip, in an early leather-covered wooden scabbard, perhaps the original, with large steel chape (small losses and repairs), 69.8 cm blade
