A BRITISH OFFICER’S MAMELUKE-HILTED SABRE IN THE OTTOMAN FASHION, EARLY 19TH CENTURY

with bright curved blade (old light staining) double-edged in front of the yelman, border engraved copper alloy hilt retaining traces of gilding and comprising quillon-block engraved with a star within a circle on both sides, foliate engraved grip-strap, and rounded ivory grips each retained by two gilt florets on both sides, the pommel retaining its red cord sword-knot (knot incomplete), in its wooden scabbard covered in black leather with ormolu locket, deep chape and rounded suspension mounts decorated en suite with the hilt, and with two suspension rings, one retaining its ormolu double lion-mask sword-belt buckle (some old wear to gilding), 79.0 cm blade
