with tapering double-edged blade (pitted) struck with indistinct marks on both sides at the forte, copper-alloy hilt comprising double shell-guard with raised borders, the inner one engraved ‘H=D= No 93’ beneath, side-guard of two flat bars converging up to join the knuckle-guard, the latter screwed to the large globular pommel, lobed rear quillon and leather-covered grip bound with a strand of twister copper alloy wire, in associated leather scabbard stamped ‘BM’ on one side, iron locket and chape and two suspension rings, 93.3 cm blade
