◉ A BRITISH OFFICER’S MAMELUKE-HILTED SHAMSHIR IN THE OTTOMAN FASHION, EARLY 19TH CENTURY
with curved waved single-edged blade (some old staining), hilt comprising border engraved quillon-block decorated with a star in a circle on both sides, pointed langets and quillons with bird-shaped tips, English mameluke grip with reeded gilt strap, and bevelled ivory grips each retained by two gilt florets on both sides, and pommel pierced for a sword-knot, in its black leather wood-lined scabbard with deep locket, chape and rounded suspension mounts en suite with the hilt, two suspension rings, and retaining nearly all is gilding, 78.0 cm blade
