image 12.8 x 8cm, folio 13.5 x 8.5cm

Collection of Robert Skelton, O.B.E. (1929-2022)
The Collection of Roop Krishna, sold Sotheby's, 15th April 1985, lot 418, where acquired by the dealer, Indar Pasricha, who sold it to Skelton at his cost.
The Victoria and Albert Museum, presumably under Skelton's guidance, had bought a number of examples of Bose's work in the sale of the Krishan Collection (IS77-1985, IS80-1985). The former is a small painting of similar style and muted colouration to this example. It is thought to have been carried out on Bose's return from a trip to the Far East in 1924 with Rabindranath Tagore and hence displays something of the influence of Chinese painting.
Sold for £2,600
