AN ARAB DAGGER (JAMBIYA) WITH SILVER-MOUNTED HILT, EARLY 20TH CENTURY

with curved double-edged blade formed with a medial ridge, hilt of characteristic form encased with a chased band of silver at the base, faced with a further silver plaque at the front (rear plaque missing) and a pierced plaque on the pommel, in its wooden scabbard with silver locket and chape decorated en suite, the remaining surface embroidered with geometric designs in plaited silver wire and ribband, the inner surface faced in leather, and with a diagonal band with four rings, 29.5 cm overall
