with head of six wedge-shaped flanges each pierced with a trefoil and tapering down to a moulding of octagonal section, each taper with two beak-shaped projections, and surmounted by a replacement writhen finial, on tapering haft of octagonal section with seam showing copper brazing, petalled hand-guard, and pierced above the basal moulding for a thong, the former crimped around the inside and retaining the remains of its wooden terminal (old pitting), 54.0 cm overall
