A STAFFORDSHIRE PEARLWARE JUG, DATED 1827

the globular body with fluted panels, decorated to one side with a weaver at a handloom above the legend 'Success to the Lancashire Weavers' and to the other with figures in a country house park, inscribed below the spout 'JB / 1827' within a floral wreath, with floral neck below a puce lustre rim, 22.5cm high

The falling incomes and difficult conditions of the Lancashire handloom weavers in the early 19th century led to demonstrations in April 1826 and attacks on the powerlooms seen as a threat to their livelihoods.
