Acquired from the artist by the present owner circa 2010
Amaya (1933-1986) was an American critic, editor and museum curator. He was director of the New York Cultural Center, the Chrysler Museum of Art, Norfolk, Virginia and Chief Curator of the Art Gallery of Ontario. The exhibitions he mounted ranged from Bouguereau and Art Nouveau to Women choose Women and Blacks: USA. His writings included Pop As Art: A Survey of the New Super Realism. He was with Andy Warhol when the radical feminist Valerie Solanas opened fire on them at the Factory in New York in 1968. He selected works for Young and Fantastic the show at the ICA in London in 1969 promoting new British talent, which included Barker's work.
