A RARE SOUTH INDIAN SPEAR HEAD (SANG), 17TH CENTURY, PROBABLY MYSORE

with curved double-edged terminal spike of hollow-diamond section formed with a medial ridge and two pairs of short grooves on each face, chiselled at the base with foliage flanked by a pair of stylised Yali, tapering faceted socket with raised collars at the top, middle and bottom, each decorated with beadwork, foliage and writhen patterns, and the latter widening with a series of additional foliate steps (areas of pitting), 49.0 cm overall
