A SOUTH INDIAN DAGGER (KATAR), 16TH CENTURY, VIJAYANAGARA, KARNATAKA

with sharply tapering blade formed with a reinforced point and a series of converging fullers, silver-encrusted iron hilt extending over the forte with a large pierced, shaped panel on each face, strongly recurved outer-guard with recurved Yali finial, reinforced at the borders with beadwork panels and in the centre with a slender foliate panels, a pair of waisted side-bars, and a pair of grip-bars each with a central globose moulding (areas of pitting, the silver with losses and small restorations), 45.7 cm blade
