AN 1831 PATTERN GENERAL OFFICER’S MAMELUKE-HILTED SABRE, MID-19TH CENTURY

of regulation pattern, with curved blade (old wear and pitting) etched with indistinct Woolwich retailer’s details, and along both sides with ‘VR’ cypher crossed sword and baton and crossed branches of laurel and palm, and hilt (grips and grip mounts missing) with quillon-block cast with foliage centred on crossed sword and baton within a wreath on both sides, in its copper alloy scabbard (old denting) retaining traces of gilding and with two suspension rings, 79.5 cm blade
