‡ A SAXON CUIRASSIER’S SABRE, CIRCA 1790-1800
with curved fullered blade (some old wear and rust patination) double-edged at the point and etched ‘Runckel A Bhlingen’ along the back at the forte, the forte on one side etched with the crowned Saxon royal arms, a martial trophy and foliage and on the other with crowned ‘FA’ monogram and martial trophies, heavy copper alloy hilt comprising side-guard linked by three scrolled bars to the knuckle-guard, the former engraved ‘C.R.C.z’ over ‘No. 43’ on the underside and cast with crowned ‘FA’ monogram, the latter hooked into the stylised lion-head pommel with plain back-piece, inner thumb-ring linked to the knuckle-guard, flat rear quillon and cord-bound leather-covered grip bound with a strand of copper alloy wire, 92.2 cm blade
