in black ink with traces of colour, the scene set beneath trees in an oval medallion, image 22 x 16cm, folio 32 x 25cm.
Provenance:
Collection of Robert Skelton, O.B.E. (1929-2022)
Collection Ishwari Prasad, Patna, from whom probably acquired by William Archer
Ishwari Prasad was one of the last artists of the Patna school. When he retired from the Calcutta School of Art in 1904, he travelled, with his son, to Patna to work for P. C. Manuk. He provided much information to the Archers in their research into Company paintings produced by that school and this drawing might have come to Skelton from William Archer.
