Japhet Chima's painting journey started when he was at primary school, the point at which he realised he was a talented artist. He started drawing professionally in 1995. Based in Dar Es Salaam, the artist works variously on commercial projects, as well as commissioned realistic portraiture, animal paintings and more abstracted compositions as seen in the current lot.
