A RARE IRON "HAND GONNE"

A RARE IRON "HAND GONNE", LATE 15TH CENTURY with swamped iron barrel of narrow bore and formed with an integral pan, retained by two later iron bands, fitted onto a later wooden tiller complete with iron lug, the stock and iron parts well patinated to match the barrel 64.0 cm; 25 1/4 in barrel The barrel was shown by the present owner to the Arthur Norris Kennard (1911-95), former Master of the Royal Armouries, who suggested a late 15th century date and that the bore would be appropriate for shooting arrows.
