AN OFFICER’S BUSBY OF THE 3RD MIDDLESEX ARTILLERY VOLUNTEERS, REIGN OF QUEEN VICTORIA (1837-1901)
of racoon fur with scarlet bag on one side, a silvered regimental badge on one side also forming a plume-holder for the white over red horsehair plume, black velvet-lined chin-chain, adjustable leather sweat-band, quilted burgundy silk liner with gilt Jones Chalk & Dawson outfitters details, and in fine condition: in its japanned circular storage tin, the exterior of the lid with outfitter’s escutcheon and copper alloy plate engraved ‘G.R. Rickett, Esq, 3rd Middx. Vol. Artl.’
The Metropolitan Artillery Volunteers (known as ‘Truro’s Tigers’ after its founder the 2nd Lord Truro) was a volunteer force formed in the London area in 1861. It was designated the 3rd Middlesex Artillery Volunteers and went on to become the 5th London Brigade, Royal Artillery in the London Brigade and served in the First World War and saw action on the Western Front.
