A PORTRAIT MINIATURE OF CAPTAIN JAMES MAXWELL WALLACE, 15TH HUSSARS, ATTRIBUTED TO ISAAC WANE SLATER (1785-1836), CIRCA 1814-1815

wearing a dark blue jacket with silver frogging and black stock, inscribed on backing paper verso, J.M. Wallace, done by /Slater, watercolour on ivory, gilt-metal frame the reverse glazed to reveal inscription, oval, 75mm high

Wallace was only on the half-pay of the 15th Hussars from 1814 to April 1815, after which he transferred to the 23rd Light Dragoons. He had a distinguished role on the staff at Waterloo and went on to become General Sir James Maxwell Wallace, K.H.
