He studied at Carolus-Duran's school in Paris at the same time as John Singer Sargent, and the two made numerous sketches of each other. It has been suggested that the two shared an intimate relationship, although de Belleroche went on to marry the sculptor Jules Edouard Visseaux's daughter. de Belleroche, like Sargent was friends of Oscar Wilde, Emile Zola, Renoir and Henri Toulouse-Latrec; de Belleroche painted the latter's portrait.
