painted in cobalt blue and green on reserved white slip, decorated with radiating vegetal bands, around a central lotus medallion, the raised lip painted with a band of ogival stylised leaves, the underside with plain turquoise glaze, 7cm high; 32cm diam.
Ceramics of this type, mostly painted in cobalt blue combined with other colours such as green and purple were produced in a number of centres in what is now Uzbekistan from the end of the 18th century onwards. This dish is closely related to an example in the Victoria and Albert Museum which is thought to be from Kokand, near Ferghana in the east of the country, C.137-1909
