with tapering russet blade (some pitting) of flattened diamond section, one side towards the forte etched with crowned heraldic lion in a shield and with a crowned ‘L’ on the other, patinated copper alloy hilt comprising double shell-guard, side-guard cast and chased with a crowned lion rampant, a crown above, centred on pierced bars and linked to the knuckle-guard, the latter hooked into the globular pommel and with scrolled inner bar, rear quillon and leather-covered grip bound with a strip of copper-alloy (surface patination overall), 93.8 cm blade
