AN OTTOMAN SILVER-MOUNTED SWORD (SHAMSHIR), TURKEY, 18TH/ EARLY 19TH CENTURY

with curved single-edged blade of crucible steel, horn grip-scales rising to a bulbous pommel (cross-guard missing), in its leather-covered wooden scabbard with large engraved silver mounts, comprising chape with a brief inscription, two bands each with an iron ring for suspension, locket struck with silver marks, and the latter fitted with a catch (incomplete), 81.5 cm blade
