Qwaa Mangana and Thamae Kaashe were both San artists working within the Kuru Art Project in D'Kar, Ghanzi District, Botswana. For a note on Qwaa and the Kuru Art Project, see lot 338. Thamae Kaashe is among the most celebrated artists to emerge from the project, having won first prize in the printmaking category of Botswana's National Arts Competition in 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2017, and the Best Artist of the Year award in 2013. His lithographs and linocuts continue the Kuru tradition of rendering the fauna, spiritual beings and narratives of the Kalahari in vivid, rhythmically energetic compositions.
