A SOUTH INDIAN LARGE SPEAR HEAD (VEL), 17TH CENTURY, BANGALORE OR MYSORE, KARNATAKA

with tapering reinforced head formed with a series of deep converging grooves on each face, chiselled at the base with foliage in the centre and with a pair of fronds enclosing the lower edges, tapering faceted socket with a raised beadwork moulding at the top, a writhen moulding in the centre, and a pronounced bulbous moulding at the base, with an additional loose ring on the lower section (pitted throughout), 43.2 cm overall
