The important retail jeweller/goldsmith, Jean-Benoit-Martial Bernard (1784-1846), set up in business on his own account at 1 rue de la Paix in 1826. Designated ‘Joaillier de la Maison du Roi’, working for all the royal family, he was also appointed ‘fournisseur du Ministère des Affaires Etrangères’, supplying official presents to illustrious visitors to the Court.
