Theophilus Tetteh, who works under the name Nii Odoi, is a Ghanaian figurative painter living and working in Accra. Tetteh's paintings are heavily influenced by Expressionism and Impressionism, using raw, near-primary colour and swift, impastoed brushwork to convey the psychological tensions of his subjects, with the eyes serving as his primary conduit for emotional expression. His practice, encompassing crowds, architecture, townscapes and portraits of Accra's urban life, has attracted international recognition for its distinctive, bold approach to the depiction of form.
