A largely self-taught painter, Hilton Korley was drawn to painting by the impressionistic quality of image-making, building compositions with layers of colour upon the canvas. His father, a writer, was an early formative influence: Korley recalls using his father's ink to make his first drawings as a child. Working primarily in acrylics and oils, Korley paints across a wide range of subjects including landscapes, figures, and scenes of African pastoral life, all rendered in bold, impressionistic colour, earning him an international following as a talented and accomplished artist.
