˜Ⓐ AN INFANTRY OFFICER'S SPADROON AND AN INFANTRY OFFICER'S SWORD, CIRCA 1780

the first with straight double-edged blade of flattened-diamond section, etched with the crowned Royal arms, trophies, foliage and 'For my Country and King' (worn, pitting), iron hilt comprising scrolling quillon, side-ring, later knuckle-guard and faceted vase-shaped pommel, and reeded ivory grip, complete with a contemporary gilt-brass chape, perhaps its original, engraved with trophies-of-war; the second with straight blade double-edged towards the point, formed with a near full length fuller and engraved 'GR' crowned (rubbed) on each face at the forte, gilt-brass hilt comprising scrolling quillon, knuckle-guard with 'five-ball' moulding, cushion-shaped pommel, and bone grip

the first: 72.7 cm; 28 5/8 in blade
