a German patinated bronze horse figure, probably Berlin, circa 1910, modelled as the warmblood Trakehner chestnut stallion, signed to table 'Reinhold Kuebart / 1910', 40.5cm high excluding marble plinth
Reinhold Kübart trained at the Königsberg Art Academy under the guidance of Friedrich Reusch, continuing his studies at Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin. Under his brother’s auspices, who was the architect at the Trakehner State Stud in East Prussia (now Yasnaya Polyana in Kaliningrad oblast, Russia), the sculptor was commissioned in about 1902 to model a three-quarter life-size figure of the famous stallion to be placed outside the recently expanded stud farm. This figure, together with another Kübart figure of the stallion Tempelhüter, were taken later by the Russians to Moscow.
