The inscriptions on the reverse, in English and Persian, identify the youthful subject of this painting as Prince Daniyal, the third son of Emperor Akbar. Another depiction of this Prince as a young man is in the Royal Collection Trust, RCIN 1005069.r. There is some resemblance the figure dpeicted here.
