A SILVER-GILT-HILTED SMALL-SWORD, LONDON, 1788, MARK OF WILLIAM KINMAN with tapering hollow-triangular blade (areas of rust), silver-gilt hilt comprising oval shell-guard fitted on the inside with a fluted flowerhead washer within a framework surrounded by sprays of foliage against a hatched ground, a pair of straight quillons with drooping globular terminals, knuckle-guard with a central writhen moulding, urn-shaped finial and later wooden grip bound with plaited wire between silver-gilt collars, and in untouched condition 81.4 cm; 32 in blade William Kinman was born in 1728 and is recorded as a prominent silver hilt maker and also a founding member of the Founders' Company of London.
