A GEORGE III GOLD FOB SEAL

A GEORGE III GOLD FOB SEAL, CIRCA 1780 oval, with reeded S-shaped double support, with carnelian armorial matrix, 3cm high; together with: a silver fob seal, English, circa 1760, oval, with scrolled support, 3cm high, a George III gilt-metal fob seal, late 18th century, oval, with pale supports, the red hardstone matrix with a profile portrait of a clergyman, 3.5cm high, and a white hardstone matrix, late 18th/early 19th century, armorial engraved (4) The gold seal engraved with the arms of Barnard impaling Byde for Sir Frederick Augusta Barnard (1743-1830), principal librarian to George III, who in 1776 married Catherine (died 1837), daughter of John Byde, former Page of Honour in the household of Queen Caroline, consort of George II. For an engraving after the portrait by John Prescott Knight of Sir Frederick apparently wearing the said seal, see the National Portrait Gallery, Ref. D602. The silver seal engraved with the arms of Litlington of London; the arms and crest are those of Spencer of Offley, co. Herts, baronets, created 1642, extinct 1712. White stone seal with the arms of Byde with a mark of cadence.
