Windsor Castle and the surrounding area was a favourite subject for Sandby throughout his career. In 1765 his brother Thomas was appointed Deputy Ranger of Windsor Great Park and took up residence in the Deputy Ranger's House (now Royal Lodge) in about 1770. Paul Sandby regularly visited his brother and his family at Windsor, especially after 1782, when Paul's son Thomas Paul married his cousin, Thomas's daughter Harriot.

Offered together with a view of Tivoli by Richard Cooper Junior (British 1740-1820), signed R Cooper del lower right, pencil, pen and brown ink and grey wash over pencil on laid paper, oval 29.5 x 24cm; 11 5/8 x 9 1/2in; 44.5 x 51.5cm; 17 1/2 x 20 1/4in (framed); Provenance: Guy Peppiatt Fine Art Ltd
