This image, the full title of which is 'The Relief of Lucknow, a Triumphant Meeting of Havelock, Outram and Sir Colin Campbell', records the aftermath of one of the most traumatic episodes of the British involvement in India, when a siege that had lasted four months was finally lifted. The original version in oils is now in the National Portrait Gallery, London (NPG5851).
