VISHNU AS KALKIN Nepal, 19th century Gouache on paper, the six armed Hindu god riding a white horse, trampling on the barbarians, the reused paper split to reveal an earlier Buddhist painting of Avalokitesvara(?) 332 x 262mm (folio) Kalkin, one of the avatars of Vishnu, is either depicted as here, a human figure riding a horse, or more commonly in South India, as a horse-headed figure.
