RAJ AJAY SINGH OF GOGUNDA Mewar,Rajasthan, India, second half 19th century gouache with gold and paper, a shield and sword at his side, holding a lotus in his right hand, inscribed on the reverse 'Jhalo Ajai Singhji', mounted 250 x 170mm (image) Private Collection Gogunda was an estate of 18 villages about 20 miles from Udaipur. Ajay Singh, a Jhala Rajput, succeeded his father in 1891 at the age of 49. The title 'raj' does note appear in the inscription, so the portrait must predate his succession.
