‡ A STYRIAN MILITARY SWORD, LAST QUARTER OF THE 16TH CENTURY
with broad straight blade double-edged towards the point and formed with a slender fuller along the back-edge in the middle section on each face, iron hilt of rounded bars, comprising vertically recurved quillons with swollen terminals, curved frontal guard pierced with a pair of apertures at the base and joined to the knuckle-guard by a scrolling bar each with a central moulding en suite with the quillons, diagonal inner guard with thumb loop, and low pyramidal pommel, and leather-covered wooden grip, 89.5 cm blade
