Provenance: Major Norman Kark Hal Woolf studied at the Chelsea Polytechnic under Bernard Adams between 1920-1922 and later in Paris, at La Grand Chaumiere. His death in mysterious circumstances caught the imagination of the public and provoked a parliamentary investigation into the Metropolitan Police, who were blamed for it. Major Norman Kark was a South-African publishing magnate, who served in the Canada Corps in WWII. He was the father of Austen Kark, C.B.E., the Managing Director of the BBC.
