Footnote: Clifton Karhu (1927 – 2007) was an American artist of Finnish heritage who settled in Japan as a missionary. He became internationally renowned for his woodblock prints, which he began making in the early 1960s and produced until his death. Karhu became known for using traditional Japanese printmaking methods to create contemporary bold and colorful landscapes of Kyoto and Kanazawa.

The sale of 170 lots comprise of a wide range of Chinese works such as ceramics from the Song to Qing Dynasty, an English private collection of jade and hardstone carvings, furniture, bronzes and sculptures.

The Japanese section includes works of art, ceramics, including a small private collection of contemporary ceramics by Kondo Yuzo, bronzes and prints. From Korea, a highlight is a Chaekgeori eight-fold screen with hidden artist seal from the Joseon Dynasty, 19th century.
