‡ A GERMAN RAPIER, EARLY 17TH CENTURY
with tapering fullered blade flattened-hexagonal section (burnished), rectangular ricasso struck with a mark (rubbed), black-painted iron hilt of rounded bars, comprising vertically recurved quillons with spatulate terminals, upper and lower ring-guard and additional diagonal bar joining the arms to the quillons, knuckle-guard with a bar front and back to the respective guards, trifurcated inner-guard, plummet-shape pommel and the grip bound with plaited wire between ‘Turk’s heads’ (areas of pitting), 89.2 cm blade
