**A RARE GERMAN PEASANT STAFF WEAPON, 17TH CENTURY with curved scythe-blade formed with a reinforced back-edge and stamped with the initials 'MTO' within a pearled circle on one side at the base, short tang, on a wooden haft retained by iron rings 85 cm; 32 1/2 in head Provenance JWHA Inv. No. 1054 A related example, possibly of Augsburg make, is preserved in the Deutsches Historisches Museum, Berlin. See H. Müller and H. Kölling 1990, p. 262, nos. 269.
