A VICTORIAN SILVER SPIRIT FLASK, CHAWNER & CO., LONDON, 1877

flattened oval, with detachable beaker base and chained screw-on cap, to one side engraved with an achievement of arms and entwined initials CPdeA, to the other with the family's crest and a monogrammed A, 11cm long, 147g

The arms are those of Ainslie of Pilton, Edinburgh, the flask engraved for General Charles Philip de Ainslie (1808-1889), whose military career culminated in his appointment as a full general in 1877 and who added the 'de' to his surname by deed poll in 1878.
