with a 7 inch silvered chapter ring applied over the scroll foliate engraved dial plate signed 'W Rayment / Stow Markett', the conventional movement with anchor escapement and external locking plate striking on the top-mounted bell, the typical posted case on ball feet, with dolphin frets between the urn finials, the rear with suspension hoop and wall spurs, with cords to weights, with pendulum, case 38cm high

William Rayment worked in Stowmarket from about 1706, when he married, till his death about 1760; it seems likely he was related to the more widely known Suffolk lantern clock maker, Richard Rayment of Bury St Edmunds.
