AN INDIAN LACQUERED HIDE SHIELD (DHAL), 19TH CENTURY of low convex form, the inside painted red and decorated with a gilt border, fitted with two pairs of iron rings for enarmes, the outer surface painted in polychrome with a central rondel filled with flowers and foliage within a gilt border, a broad band left natural, and the perimeter en suite with the centre, fitted with four corresponding brass bosses 64.5 cm; 25 1/2 in diameter
