A PAIR OF 20 BORE FLINTLOCK PISTOLS OF LIVERY TYPE BY WILLIAM (2) BRANDER

A PAIR OF 20 BORE FLINTLOCK PISTOLS OF LIVERY TYPE BY WILLIAM (2) BRANDER, LONDON, TOWER PRIVATE PROOF MARKS, CIRCA 1770 with swamped two-stage sighted barrels, engraved with foliage and inscribed 'London' over the breeches, engraved grooved tangs, signed border and scroll-engraved locks, figured walnut full stocks carved with raised apron mouldings about the tangs, engraved brass mounts including pierced foliate side-plates, trigger-guards, pommels engraved with large expanded flowerheads, vacant escutcheons and brass-tipped wooden ramrods (one tip missing) 35.5cm; 14in (2) William 2 Brander is recorded at 70 Minories 1765-87. He was contractor to the East India Company in 1773.
