A RARE IRON "HAND GONNE", LATE 15TH CENTURY
with swamped iron barrel of narrow bore and formed with an integral pan, retained by two later iron bands, fitted onto a later wooden tiller complete with iron lug, the stock and iron parts well patinated to match the barrel

The barrel was shown by the present owner to the Arthur Norris Kennard (1911-95), former Master of the Royal Armouries, who suggested a late 15th century date and that the bore would be appropriate for shooting arrows.
