A 1796 PATTERN HEAVY CAVALRY OFFICER'S DRESS SWORD

with double-edged blade of flattened-hexagonal section (light pitting), regulation gilt-brass hilt including boatshell guard with foliate engraved border, knuckle-guard and pommel chiseled with designs of conventional foliage, the grip bound with plaited silver wire between gilt moulded collars, in leather scabbard with engraved gilt-brass locket, chape, and middle-band, en suite with the guard (rings missing) and retaining much early gilding, 74.2 cm blade
