A KOTO KATANA, MUROMACHI PERIOD (BIZEN PROVINCE)

A KOTO KATANA, MUROMACHI PERIOD (BIZEN PROVINCE) the blade tori-zori, iori-mune and ko-kissaki, engraved with a futatsu-hi on each face ending in kaki-otoshi in the nakago, itame-hada becoming almost masame in places (rubbed condition), suguha hamon in nioi-deki, ko-maru boshi with short kaeri and machi-okuri nakago with single mekugi-ana, ha-agari kuri-jiri and signed Bishu Osafune Haru-?mitsu on the omote and dated on the ura (illegible and partially obscured by mekugi-ana); with shin-gunto koshirae comprising iron maru-bori tsuba mumei depicting two horses in relief (one in shakudo and one in gilt) on a background of tiles, kabuto-gane decorated with a mon in silver and a tassel of red and brown fabric Nagasa: 63.2 cm; Moto-haba: 3.0 cm; Saki-haba: 1.7 cm The tassel indicates that the owner of the sword was of high rank in the Imperial Japanese Army.
