A CASED PAIR OF 36 BORE SAXON PERCUSSION OFFICER'S PISTOLS BY F. GERBIG

A CASED PAIR OF 36 BORE SAXON PERCUSSION OFFICER'S PISTOLS BY F. GERBIG, ZELLA ST BLASIN, CIRCA 1830 with etched twist swamped barrels inscribed 'Zella St Blassin' in silver over the breeches on a long flat and fitted with German silver fore-sights, engraved breech tangs, engraved stepped locks signed in silver and decorated with wolf masks on the tails, engraved percussion hammers, set triggers, figured walnut full stocks cut with a panel of chequering within a foliate frame on each side of the butts and enriched with minute silver nails, engraved German silver mounts including two-piece side-plates incorporating a winged monster mask, trigger-guards decorated with trophies-of-arms, butt-caps with the owner's initials 'Lv.P', a pair of moulded ramrod-pipes, horn fore-end caps, and horn tipped ramrods (one replaced): in a lined and fitted case, complete with some accessories including bullet mould and brass powder-flask 38.7cm; 15 1/4in This maker appears to be unrecorded.
