A ROYAL DOULTON STONEWARE SUFFRAGETTE INKWELL, CIRCA 1909

modelled by Florrie Jones after designs by Leslie Harradine as a woman of a certain age and militant expression, her blue apron impressed with the motto 'VOTES / FOR WOMEN', her head and assertively crossed arms hinging open on a pin at the rear, impressed FJ to interior, underside impressed with trademark, P.O.D.R. No.546208 and 7280, 8.5cm high

Leslie Harradine designed two inkwells for Doulton on a suffrage theme, registered between 21 and 24 July 1909: the present piece and its companion in the form of an angry baby.
